Balancing College and Pregnancy

Your education and dreams don’t have to end because of a pregnancy. While it may seem impossible right now, many women continue their studies and achieve their goals with the right support system in place.

If you’re worried about how your school may treat you, it’s essential to know you have rights. Title IX is a federal law that protects pregnant and parenting students from discrimination. Title IX stipulates that your school must allow you to stay in class, participate in extracurricular activities, and provide reasonable adjustments related to your pregnancy. They must also excuse absences for pregnancy and childbirth, just as they would for any other medical condition.

Knowing these protections are in place can give you peace of mind as you consider your options and your future.

Deciding What’s Next

While family, friends, or your partner may share strong opinions about what you should do, the final decision is yours. You may want to discuss your options with people you trust, or you may need time to process things on your own.

At Bella Women’s Center, we provide services to help you gather the facts before you decide. After a lab-quality pregnancy test, we may offer an ultrasound to confirm how far along you are, whether the pregnancy is viable, and if the pregnancy is located in the uterus. This information is crucial to know, regardless of the option you’re considering.

From there, our client advocates can walk you through all of your choices—parenting, adoption, and abortion—so you understand the risks, responsibilities, and resources available. If you decide to continue your pregnancy, we can connect you with material and community support to help balance school and life.

You’re Not Alone

Being pregnant in college can feel isolating, but you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. Schedule your free and confidential appointment at Bella Women’s Center today. We’re here to provide medical information, support, and a safe space to explore your options.
