If you’re considering abortion, you may already be hearing a lot of opinions about what you should do. Your partner, parents, friends, or other people close to you may have their own thoughts about your pregnancy, and even when they mean well, their opinions can leave you feeling pulled in different directions.
The people you trust should give you space to be honest about what you’re thinking and feeling. You should be able to ask questions, take time to consider your options, and make a decision without feeling pushed into something you’re not sure about.
At Bella Women’s Center, you have a place where you can talk openly about your pregnancy, ask questions, and learn more about your options in a confidential setting. We also offer free pregnancy testing and limited ultrasounds so you can gather more information.
You don’t have to have everything figured out before you reach out. Schedule an appointment today. We are ready to listen.
Understand Your Feelings First
Before listening to everyone else’s opinions, give yourself some time to think about how you actually feel.
You may be scared, excited, confused, sad, or unsure about what you want.
Consider what you want for your future and what concerns are weighing on you. You might be thinking about your relationship, finances, education, career, family, health, or whether you feel ready to become a parent.
Writing down your thoughts or talking with someone you trust can help you sort through what you are feeling and learn what specific support and resources can help you.
Know What Healthy Support Should Look Like
The right people can help you think through your decision without making the decision for you.
Healthy support might look like someone who:
- Listens to your concerns without judging you
- Gives you space to express your feelings
- Helps you find reliable information
- Respects your privacy
- Supports you without pressuring you toward a specific choice
Your partner or loved ones may have their own feelings about the pregnancy, and it can be helpful to hear their perspective. But pressure, threats, guilt, or attempts to control your decision are not healthy forms of support.
If you feel unsafe talking with someone about your pregnancy, consider reaching out to another trusted person or a professional who can support you.
Get the Details You Need
It can be difficult to make a decision when you are still missing important information about your pregnancy.
A positive pregnancy test answers one question: Is hCG present? It doesn’t answer the important questions that can impact your health and next steps.
You may still be wondering, How far along am I? Where is the pregnancy developing? Is the pregnancy progressing the way it should? A limited ultrasound can provide a closer look at your pregnancy and offer information a test at home cannot.
Take the time to also learn what parenting, adoption, and abortion could look like in your specific situation.
When you have information in front of you, you can think about your decision from a place of understanding rather than feeling like you have to choose because you’re scared, overwhelmed, or trying to meet someone else’s expectations.
If you’re considering abortion because of financial concerns or because you don’t feel ready to parent, you may also want to learn about resources that could help address some of those concerns.
At Bella Women’s Center, we offer educational classes to help provide parents with the skills needed to raise a child. Participants will receive credits for completing these courses that can be used on items such as diapers, baby formula, and clothing.
We can also assist with referrals for community resources, government assistance programs, and medical care.
You Are Not Alone
You may have questions about your pregnancy, concerns about what comes next, or simply need somewhere you can talk without having to pretend you already know what you want.
You don’t have to walk into an appointment with all the answers. At Bella Women’s Center, you can take a moment to talk through what you’re facing, ask the questions on your mind, and learn more about your pregnancy and options.
Our confidential services are designed to give you information, support, and space to think about your next steps.
When you’re ready, reach out to make an appointment.
Bella Women’s Center does not provide or refer for abortions.
